The Early Days
In 1970 WVMI was the powerhouse Country station with a little know FM of WBIL (for Biloxi of course).  WBIL was later renamed WVMI-FM with a Top 40 daytime fprmat named FM-94 and the night time signal countinued the Country format making it 24 hrs country. In 1977, WVMI -AM received permission to extend its AM signal to nights, and WQID was born (staff picked it among several choices during a bomb scare evacuation). It almost became WFEH (for FE Holladay) but democracy won that day.
