$1,000 Song Promos
circa 1986
Back in the 80s WQID ran its' famous $1,000 Song "Hey Jude". arguably, one of the biggest promotions in the market size of Biloxi-Gulfport. the contest ran just after 5 pm. The song was over 8 minutes, getting even the most hesitant listener, time to get to a phone. This resulted in an area phone outage (up to Hattiesburg). WLOX TV announced on the 6 pm news that WQID had run a contest that knocked out phones in So. Mississippi. News stories followed. In fact, the then President elder Bush was making a campaign appearance two weeks later and had his advance people meet with us to make sure our next contest would not interfere with their communications.
